NOAH on Digi 24: report from the Cluj workshop
Digi 24 · “Romania Fast Forward” · February 10, 2018 · report by Sergiu Voicu
In February 2018, the team from Digi 24’s “Romania Fast Forward” show visited our workshop in Cluj. Sergiu Voicu filmed how a NOAH watch is made, from a piece of wood to the movement, and spoke with the people in the workshop.
What was shown in the report
The origin story: the first watches, made with few tools, the first sale at the Made in RO fair in Bucharest in May 2015, and the move to Cluj. The workshop, with wood brought from all over the world. And the people who cut, sand, and assemble each watch.
“We must have difficult times, but remain upright”
Iosif Harasemiuc, in the Digi 24 report
The phrase comes from the story behind the name. NOAH means Noah, the man who built an ark out of wood and survived.
What has changed since then
Since the report, the workshop has grown. Today, over 5,000 people wear a NOAH watch, and each watch passes through the hands of four artisans. We have kept what was important from the beginning: natural, unpainted, and unvarnished wood, a Swiss Ronda movement, and sapphire crystal. We added the ash box and the engraving on the back, so that a watch can become a gift for someone special.
The wooden smartwatch that was talked about in the report is no longer produced. We have returned to what we do best: handmade wooden watches.
