Today we present to you the creation process of a model made of ebony with copper inserts.

The main components that make up a watch are: Case, dial, mechanism, glass and strap.
As you know, at NOAH we produce cases and dials using exotic wood with a very high resistance.

In the case of the watch that we will present in this blog, the case and dial are not only made of wood.
Before processing the raw wood, it is cut into strips and glued with copper.
Therefore, each piece has the following structure: wood (base), copper in the middle and again wood in the upper part. A kind of sandwich, where instead of bread we have wood and instead of ham we have copper :)



Of course, dimensioning and design play extremely important roles in this process, because the copper must result exactly in the desired areas. On the case, the copper must appear above the metal parts that include the telescopes of the strap, and in the case of the dial, the copper must appear at the height of the border, next to the hands and below the 12 indicators on the dial.

These inserts bring at least two advantages:
- A plus on the design side. Both the case and the dial of the watch have a copper ring that bring a chromatic accent to the compact mass of wood.
Extra reflections on the watch will also result.

- Increased resistance to mechanical shocks and deformations resulting from exposure of the watch to high temperatures.

All wood essences are available for this watch model and instead of copper you can opt for silver or gold inserts.

The clock with copper inserts will have the 12 indicators on the dial painted by hand.
If you opt for gold, the 12 indicators on the dial will be covered in gold leaf and the needles will be blown with gold.
In the case of silver inserts, the indicators on the dial will be covered with silver foil.



Clock mechanism.

For these watches we use a Swiss mechanism, plated with gold and 5 rubies.
The mechanism is quartz and the battery life is 4 years.
